On arrival at any of our venues for the first time, you will receive a written syllabus detailing the primary skills that you will be taught in our Beginners and Improvers classes.

These skills are key to your ongoing salsa dance development and we feel that formalizing them in the way that we have done offers a structured approach to your learning and enables you to easily assess your own progress.

We hope the following summary of your learning path is helpful.

Beginners

Even those who think they have 'two left feet' can still learn to salsa dance very quickly and easily. Our experienced instructors take Beginners through the basic steps and crucially, give an insight into basic musical structure. An understanding of this enables Beginners to easily learn how to dance the basic salsa steps in time with the music.

Beginners often surprise themselves when they see how much they can achieved in a short space of time and by how much they enjoy the whole experience.

Improvers

Once the basic steps have been learned and the musical structure understood, our Improvers students are introduced to partner work. Men are taught basic 'leading' techniques and ladies how to follow their partner's lead.

Before moving on to Intermediate Level, our Improvers apply their newly acquired 'leading' and 'following' skills to short, simple routines and turn patterns, enabling them to hold their own on the dance floor.

Intermediates

The Intermediate Level is very much about stretching our students converting them from basic dancers into confident and competent salseros. We do this by raising the difficulty and complexity of the moves, routines and turn patterns and by encouraging students to express themselves in a way that develops their individual and unique salsa dance style.

We also really hone in on the all important leading and following skills which need to be mastered.  Poor leading and following skills often lead to men being frustrated by ladies "who just won't do as they're supposed to" and to ladies who get even more frustrated because they "could be dancing with someone else who knows what they're doing".

Advanced

Our Advanced students work through complex routines and turn patterns that are broken down to their core components making them easier to learn and remember. This helps to develop their repertoire and confidence to choreograph their own routines - and also to perfect their styling ready to be noticed on the dance floor.
